When you are not using your Kindle it has several different screen savers that pop up. This is one of my favorite screen savers.

The Other Guys

Ted added The Other Guys to our Netflix list thinking I wanted to see it. I didn't however we ended up watching it this evening and I admit it was hilarious.

Amazon Kindle Card

I received a $150 Vons gift card in 2009 which I haven't used yet. For some reason I am horrible about using gift cards and I keep them for years. Now that I have a Kindle I decided to finally use the gift card to buy Amazon gift cards so I can buy more books to read. I bought my first gift card today. Yahoo!

BSA Mints

My friend Kitty facilitated BSA training for our company this week. She is super creative and to make the meetings more entertaining she themed the meetings around the Oscars. To add to the theme Kitty asked me to be a paparazzo taking pictures of employees as they walked the red carpet. She also had all kinds of treats that you would get at the movies like popcorn, chocolate bars and candy. I took this tin of mints.

Stella Mare's

My boss Sharon knows that Ted and I have been going through a challenging time recently and she generously gave us this gift card for Stella Mare's. This is a very special restaurant for us as that's where we got married 3 years ago. The gift card is a nice gesture of Sharon's support and well wishes and Ted and I appreciate the gesture.

Red Bag

I bought this red purse today. I love the style of the purse but the color is a little different for me. However the style won me over and I'm going to do my best to rock a red bag.

A Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte

I saw Ferris Bueller's Day Off the other day and one of my favorite scenes is when they visit the Art Institute of Chicago. My favorite piece of art they view is A Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte. Seeing that scene reminded me of the preliminary oil study of this painting that we saw at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. The oil study is a much smaller version of the piece in Chicago but still beautiful.

1000th Post And Counting...

I wish I had something super exciting to post today since this is the 1000th post on my blog, but I don't, so I made this sign celebrating the 1000th post.

Lazy Day Reading

Ted knew I was feeling under the weather this weekend so he bought me two magazines to help keep my mind occupied. The magazines did help.

Rocket Launch

A rocket was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base yesterday at 1:10 p.m. I was at work in Goleta, about 45 miles away, but we still had a pretty good view of the launch.

Memories

My friend Danielle's father passed away last Saturday. She is in NC for the funeral and she asked me to email her pictures of her and her dad from her wedding. I emailed her several pictures and this is my favorite. I have always loved this picture of Danielle and her father.

New Notepad

My boss Sharon knows I am addicted to notepads and every once in a while she picks one up for me when out shopping. She gave me this spring themed notepad earlier this week and I look forward to using it.

Butchart Gardens

Once again I did not take any pictures today so I am sharing more pictures from my trip to Seattle in August 2006. As part of our trip my mom and I took the ferry to Vancouver Island and visited Butchart Gardens in Victoria. The gardens are one of the most popular attractions in Victoria and we certainly saw why. I remember the weather was beautiful and it was a wonderful day to be outdoors. As soon as you walk through the front gates you are greeted by myriad and vibrant colors in the sunken gardens. From there we spent several hours exploring the different sections of the gardens. My mom is a gardening enthusiast so our visit was particularly special for her.

Vibrant Color

Ted brought these beautiful flowers home this evening. They are such a vibrant shade of pinky purple it makes me wonder if this is a shade normally found in nature or if it is a genetically engineered color. Either way they are beautiful.

Knight And Day

Ted and I watched Knight and Day this evening. It's been a while since I watched a movie with Tom Cruise and/or Cameron Diaz. It was quite a far fetched plot line but it was still fun to watch.

Wedding Dress

After 2 1/2 years I thought it was finally time to get my wedding dress cleaned. When I picked it up this morning I was surprised at how big the box is. It's huge. Now I have to find somewhere to store it. I know I'm never going to wear it again but I couldn't bear to get rid of it. It brings back memories of such a beautiful day.

Mount Rainier

I did not take any pictures today so I thought I would share two pictures from a few years ago. My mom and I went to Seattle in August 2006. We took a day trip to Mt. Rainer and were treated to both snowy mountaintops and fields of colorful wildflowers.

Two of my coworkers got engaged on Christmas and I am letting them borrow this book I received from my friend Nicole when I got engaged. Goodness knows you can use a bargain when planning a wedding.

The Kindness Of Strangers

I attended a seminar in Santa Barbara yesterday and when I was leaving the parking garage I could not find my ticket. Typically if you lose your ticket you have the pay the full 24 price of $24. The gentleman in the ticket booth was very kind and asked me when I entered the parking garage and only charged me for the 4 hours I was there.

Pocket Knife and Thumb Drive

I received this pocket knife/thumb drive as a gift from my company's insurance broker. It's actually a pretty useful gadget. I gave it to Ted who will actually use all of the different components.

Ted bought me these magazines to read since I'm feeling under the weather. They are perfect Sunday reading material.

To Renew Or Not To Renew...

That is the question. I know I should suck it up and go for the lifetime membership but $700 is a lot of money. I know that spending $40 each year on an annual membership doesn't make sense either but I just can't manage to fork over $700 in one fell swoop. What to do, what to do.

Sick Day

Two things I did not do today:
1. Go to work.
2. Watch Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
Ted on the other hand did both. Even though he said the movie was very stylish he couldn't convince me to watch it.

Happy Birthday Suzie

It's my sister's birthday and since I didn't see her today I am posting a picture from her visit in July 2009. I have posted this picture of us on the Santa Barbara pier before but I like it so it is making a repeat appearance. Happy birthday, Suzie!

Nothing But Crumbs

Ted baked sausage balls last weekend and I took the leftovers to work today. They are delicious and I knew they would go quickly. I set them on a table in the break room and they were gone in about 2 hours. They went even faster than I expected.

New York, New York

Kindle Sleeve

My Kindle sleeve has arrived so now I feel comfortable taking my Kindle anywhere.

Mr. Biggles

Since it is January I can start using my 2011 ASPCA calendar. Fittingly the cat featured in January, Mr. Biggles, it a tuxedo cat just like Callie.

Callie's Happy New Year

Callie's 2011 started off with a bang. I got up early this morning and fed Callie around 7:00 when she really started whining. After that I went upstairs to read. In the meantime, Ted got up around 8:00 and fed Callie which is typically the first thing he does Saturday mornings. Around 8:30 Ted was talking on the phone with his sister Carol and I heard him mention he was able to sleep in this morning because surprisingly Callie did not wake him up crying to be fed. Once he got off the phone I let him know she was quiet this morning because she had already been fed. Of course Callie did not mention this to Ted and happily ate the extra food Ted gave her at 8:00. Now she is sitting in her tree in a food coma.
